Bali's hip beach town — black-sand surf breaks, brunch cafés and a young digital-nomad crowd, with rice paddies still edging the streets between the beach clubs.

Canggu has spread along three roughly parallel roads running down to the sea, and they are genuinely different places. Batu Bolong is the busiest, with the surf schools, the cafés and the beach everyone photographs, and the traffic that follows all three. Berawa to the south is newer and more polished, closer to the big beach clubs. Pererenan, north across the river, is where the quiet went: rice fields, a slower beach, and a ten-minute ride back into the noise when you want it.

It suits surfers, remote workers and anyone who wants other travellers around. It suits families and light sleepers considerably less. The construction is constant, the scooter traffic on the shortcuts is relentless, and the beach is black sand with a shore break that is not a paddling pool.

The airport is about 45 minutes away in the middle of the day and can be twice that at peak. Nothing here is walkable the way Seminyak is, so budget for a scooter or a driver and expect short hops to take longer than the map suggests.
