Where to stay in Tegallalang
The rice-terrace country north of Ubud — carved valley steps, jungle swings and the Tukad Pakerisan gorges, with river-view villas strung along the ridge roads.
Tegallalang is the ridge country immediately north of Ubud, and it is where a good share of the jungle-view villas actually are. The terraces themselves are a roadside stop that is busy from mid-morning; the reason to stay up here is the valleys on either side of the main road, where the pools look over the Petanu and Pakerisan gorges and it is quiet by six.
It suits people who want Ubud's surroundings without Ubud's traffic and who have a scooter or a driver. It suits anyone wanting to walk to dinner very little, because the restaurants are strung along a road with no pavement.
The temples along the Pakerisan — Gunung Kawi and Tirta Empul — are closer from here than from town, and reach them before nine and you may have them nearly to yourself.
