Where to stay in Pemuteran & Menjangan
Bali's dive coast, at the far north-west end of the island — the coral gardens of Pemuteran, world-class diving off Menjangan, and the national park behind it. Long empty roads and very little development.
Pemuteran is a calm bay at the far north-west end of the island, and it is the quietest stretch of developed coast in Bali. The reef directly off the beach has been under coral restoration for two decades and is unusually healthy for something you can reach by walking in; the serious diving is out at Menjangan, inside the national park, reached by boat from Labuhan Lalang half an hour east.
It suits divers and snorkellers, and travellers who want somewhere genuinely undeveloped without giving up comfort. It suits anyone on a short trip poorly, because getting here eats most of a day whichever way you come.
The drive is either over the mountains through Munduk or along the north coast through Lovina, and both are long. Come for three nights or do not come at all.
