Where to stay in Lovina
The calm north coast — black-sand beaches, dawn dolphin-watching trips and hot springs, well away from the southern crowds.
Lovina is the north coast's main strip, spread along several kilometres either side of Kalibukbuk. The sea here is a different animal from the south: flat, warm, grey-black sand and no surf at all. The dawn dolphin boats are the signature trip and are exactly as crowded as their reputation suggests.
It suits travellers making a loop of the island who want a calm night on the north coast, and anyone heading on to Menjangan or the hot springs at Banjar. It suits a dedicated beach holiday less, because the swimming is calm rather than beautiful and the strip is quiet after ten.
Most people arrive here over the mountains from Munduk or Bedugul rather than direct from the south, and that drive is the better half of the day.
